Tony Hall moved from Glenelg to Hawthorn in 1988 and made an immediate impression in his first season. Not only did he play in a premiership side, he finished fourth in the Brownlow and was selected in the All-Australian team.
Hall wasn't overly fast or flashy, but he was as strong as an ox, and had a vice-like grip. Just as Hall looked to be on the verge of something special, he was cut down by a team mate! Hall's knee buckled under the pressure of an Andy Collins tackle during the Victoria vs South Australia state game. Hall returned in time for the 1991 premiership, and while he was a great contributor for the club, he probably never reached the heights he might have if not for the injury.
Hall moved to the Adelaide Crows in 1994. |
