Drafted at pick 19 in 1997 from the Western Jets, Obba never really managed to get his career going and was eventually delisted after 17 games in 4 years.
A half-back flanker with nice skills and the ability to close down opponents, Obst was played on and off the bench by Ken Judge. He played his best football in defence under Peter Schwab, but was unfortunately injured every time he attempted to cement a place in the side. Despite managing three serviceable games late in 2001 he was delisted. However, Obba was a key part of Box Hill's first premiership, and his work ethic and commitment to the club was first rate. Obst was picked up by Sydney in the 2002 rookie draft and is currently one of Port Melbourne's best players. |
