Taken at pick 14 in the 2005 National Draft, Birchall made an immediate impact, making his debut in front of friends and family in Tasmania in Round 1.
He settled into the side well off a wing or half-back, with his kicking and natural ability to find the football a standout. His last month was fantastic, averaging 30 possessions a game as just an 18 year old.
2007 was another standout season, playing every game and showing maturity beyond his years in defence. Calm under pressure and a beautiful kick, Birchall looks like a real player of the future. |
